2024 TWMC Membership fee is £29 which includes a £23.90 BMC Affiliation fee. From 1st July Membership is £17 and includes a £11.95 BMC Affiliation fee. Members must be aged 18 years or older. We regularly welcome prospective members at club events and have a New Members Rep to help you get to know us. Benefits of joining include; club climbing evenings, partners, weekend trips, socials, skills development, chat groups, and discounts.
A proportion of your membership fee is used to affiliate you to the BMC as a ‘Club Member’. TWMC is a British Mountaineering Council (BMC) affiliated club and endorses the BMC’s Participation Statement regarding risk – see image in footer.

BMC Club Members are eligible to:
- Purchase BMC Travel and Activity Insurance for an additional cost
- Buy a BMC Reciprocal Rights card to get discounts in Alpine huts
- Register for Mountain Training Instructor Schemes
- Upgrade your Club Membership and receive the same benefits as Individual membership, including £10,000 Personal Accident Insurance and 4 paper copies of Summit Magazine. To become a ‘Club Upgrade’ BMC Member you pay a small upgrade fee, instead of the full cost of BMC Individual membership on top of club fees.
Member of another BMC affiliated club?
If you wish to join the TWMC, you will need to pay our membership cost in full but can reclaim the BMC affiliation fee directly from the BMC. https://www.thebmc.co.uk/claiming-multiple-membership-refunds So if you’re also a member of another local club or a national one like The Climbers Club or The Alpine Club, or a University Student club, you can claim a refund (for full year subscriptions). The BMC usually send refunds in July and will do so each year automatically, as long as you remain eligible.

- Complete a digital membership form (for BMC Combined Liability Insurance)
- Come for a few climbs locally on sandstone or indoors (get to know other members and the Committee)
- Pay your membership fee (we’ll ask you to pay after you’ve met us and your application has been accepted)
